Assist. Prof. Sebastijan Valentan, PhD
Presenting Ecclesiastical and Canon Law from the Point of View of the Public Education in Slovenia
Sebastijan Valentan is a Doctor of Canon Law and an Assistant Professor, Roman Catholic priest, judge at the Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Court in Maribor, and lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of the University in Ljubljana and Maribor. He is a member of the Expert Group for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons at the Slovenian Episcopal Conference. In 2020, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia appointed him the expert of the Republic of Slovenia in the Open Method of Coordination Working Group Multilingualism & Translation in the European Commission. In 2021, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed him a member of the Council of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for open issues with the Catholic Church. He has been a member of the Council of Ombudsmen of the Republic of Slovenia. In scientific research, he is dedicated to the study of the legal relationship between the Church and the State. He publishes scientific and professional articles in multiple languages in domestic and foreign journals. He has translated numerous books, and routinely translates international legal documents. As a visiting assistant at the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations Office and Specialized Agencies in Geneva, he has participated, among other things, at sessions, working parties and informal meetings of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
