Assist. Prof. Ivan Obadić, PhD

Presenting Ecclesiastical Law and the Origin of University Autonomy

Ivan Obadić is an assistant professor at the Section for the General History of Law and the State at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb. He graduated in the teaching-oriented and scientific-oriented study of History from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb (Professor of History and Bachelor of Arts in History) in 2006, and in the integrated graduate and post-graduate university study programme in Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb in 2007. He acquired his Master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2008. In 2013, he completed a post-graduate study programme at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He acquired his doctoral degree at the European University Institute in 2017. He has worked as a research assistant at the Varaždin Research Institute of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2008-2010). He has been working at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb since 2010. He has participated in numerous domestic and international conferences, and has published numerous papers and chapters in domestic and foreign journals and collections of papers. He has organised numerous lectures, conferences and seminars. He has participated in multiple Croatian and international scientific projects under the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, and European University Institute. He has received several awards and stipends. In 2020, he underwent training at the Centre for Southeast European Studies in Graz as a part of the Field of Excellence Dimensions of Europeanization. He was the leader of the Jean Monnet Module of Development of European Integration and Institutions at the Section for the General History of Law and the State at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb (2020-2023). In 2021-2022, he was the President of the University Council of the University of Zagreb. In 2024, he was appointed a member of the Ethics Committee of the University of Zagreb, and was elected the Chairperson of that body among its members.
