The University of Zagreb futsal team represented Croatia at the FISU World University Futsal Championship in China which was held from 10th to 16th June 2024 in Shanghai, a city with 100,000 students from eight universities.
14 men's and 7 women's teams from 16 countries took part in the competition and expectations were high, especially in countries where this sport is highly popular. After advancing through the group stage, a 4:1 victory was achieved in the quarter-finals against the Portugal team, followed by a 4:2 win against Ukraine in the semi-finals. In the final match against Brazil our boys beat a team full of top international players 4:1 and deservedly became world champions.
The Croatian futsal team is comprised of students from the University of Zagreb and the Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences, all of them regular UniSportHR futsal players with rich international experience and victories under their belts, as well as those achieved in the Croatian First Futsal League and wearing the the national team colours.
The world champions are: Ante Piplica, Lukas Mlinarić, Mateo Mužar, Matija Tolić, Bepo Paus, Branko Artić, Filip Novak, Ivan Penava, Nikola Gudasić, Toni Vučković, Jure Jakovljević, Ivan Marković, Lovro Cigler, and captain Bruno Kovačić. The coaching staff was led by Alen Jukić and Saša Ledinščak.
