University of Zagreb and Munich BMW Group sign Expansion of Cooperation Agreement

On Friday 31 January 2025, in the Regional Center for the Development of Entrepreneurial Competences for the countries of Southeast Europe – SEECEL, a signing ceremony was held for the Expansion of Cooperation Agreement between the University of Zagreb and the Munich BMW Group.

The Agreement represents an expansion for the existing cooperation between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FSB) and the BMW Group on the Intelligent Data Models for Battery Cell Production – INSIGHT project. The project focuses on research and development of solutions for the optimisation of battery cell manufacturing using artificial intelligence models, with Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture professors, postgraduates and students joining the BMW Group researchers in its implementation.

The Agreement was signed before numerous invitees by the Rector of the University of Zagreb, Prof. Stjepan Lakušić, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Prof. Zdenko Tonković, PhD, and Head of Battery Cell Recycling Technology Development at the BMW Group, Moritz Poremba.

Alongside vice-rectors, deans and vice-deans of University of Zagreb faculties, also present at the signing ceremony were, among others, members of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Germany, representatives of the Tomić Group, members of the INSIGHT project team, and other guests and dignitaries.
