The University of Zagreb has over 100 bilateral agreements signed with its partner universities from Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia. These bilateral agreements regulate different types of cooperation, such as work on subjects and projects of common interest, exchange of scholars and students, joint publications, exchange of information and other activities in order to improve the academic cooperation.

In the academic year 2011/12 Croatia became a full member of the Life Long Programme. For the academic year 2013/14 University of Zagreb has signed over 800 bilateral agreements with partner institutions from the Programme countries. Additionally, University is a coordinator or a partner in several LLP projects, TEMPUS projects, Erasmus Mundus or Jean Monnet.
