In response to favourable reception of last year's performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Così fan tutte at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, University of Zagreb students and their mentors are preparing three repeat performances at the Academy of Music's Blagoje Bersa Concert Hall.
Collaborating on this year's production are over a hundred University of Zagreb students from five faculties: Academy of Music, Academy of Dramatic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts, Faculty of Textile Technology and Faculty of Architecture.
Students of the Academy of Music will perform under conductor Tomislav Fačini, with Dora Ruždjak Podolski as the director. The opera features set design by students of the Academy of Dramatic Arts, Academy of Fine Arts and Faculty of Architecture, under the mentorship of Tanja Lacko, Ana Sarić, Jelena Đanko and Gordana Bakić-Vlahov. Costumes were designed by Faculty of Textile Technology students, under the mentorship of Barbara Bourek and Sandra Škaro. Animation was done by Darko Bakliža's students of the Academy of Fine Arts, and stage lighting was executed by Deni Šesnić's students of the Academy of Dramatic Arts. The poster was designed by Faculty of Architecture's Interdisciplinary study programme of design students, under the mentorship of Ivan Doroghy.
Mozart composed Così fan tutte in his twilight years, in the fall of 1789. Lorenzo da Ponte's libretto deals with eternal themes of infidelity and fiancée swapping. According to many, it was in this opera that Mozart's musical expression reached its peak, its most beautiful and most comical moments.
The students' performance of Così fan tutte will take place in the Academy of Music's Blagoje Bersa Concert Hall, at Trg Republike Hrvatske 12. The premiere is set for Wednesday, 27th March, with repeat performances on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th March, all beginning at 7:30 p.m.
