The opening ceremony will take place on Monday, 1st July 2019, in the Aula Magna at the Rectorate of the University of Zagreb, with welcome speeches by the Rector of the University of Zagreb, prof. Damir Boras, Ph. D., Rector of the University of Belgrade and DRC President, prof. Ivanka Popović, Ph. D., and the envoy of the mayor of Zagreb, Katarina Milković, M. Sc., assistant principal of the City Office for Education.
This year's lectures will be given by numerous scientists from several universities from the region (Pécs, Zagreb, Sarajevo and Osnabrück) as well as leading experts from non-governmental organisations and research institutes, with the Summer School itself to be inaugurated by Mr Sebastian Schäfer, Managing Director of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe.
The DRC Summer School project was initiated by IDM (Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe) and International House Pécs in 2003 to promote regional co-operation among young social scientists. Its general aim is the establishment of a network of young scientists who deal with the issue of regional co-operation as Central European perspective, and is intended for young researchers interested in the Danube region.
The DRC Summer School takes place at a different university each year. Its 16th edition lasts from 30th June to 7th July, and offers the participants an opportunity to share their knowledge in numerous lectures and several thematic workshops.
