Awarding the Honorary Doctorate to Professor Emeritus Daniel Hagège and the renewal of the agreement with the University of Orléans

An honorary doctorate of the University of Zagreb was awarded to Professor emeritus Daniel Hagège from the University of Orléans at the ceremony held in the Aula Magna of the University of Zagreb on Wednesday 12 December 2018, which made Professor emeritus Daniel Hagège the 100th honorary doctor of the University of Zagreb. The honorary doctorate was awarded to Professor emeritus Daniel Hagège by the Rector of the University of Zagreb Professor Damir Boras, Ph. D., on the basis of a report by the Expert Committee for Honorary Doctorates, which was accepted by the Senate of the University of Zagreb at the session held on 12 June 2018.

The University of Zagreb awarded the honorary doctorate to the Professor emeritus Daniel Hagège, Professor of the University of Orléans in France, for his exceptional contribution to the development of scientific research in the University of Zagreb, especially in fields of biochemistry, biology and molecular biotechnology, for his cooperation with the University of Zagreb and for its distinction in European higher education.

The Expert Committee included: Professor Vladimir Mrša, Ph. D. (Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology of the University of Zagreb), the president of the committee, Professor Damir Ježek, Ph. D. (Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology of the University of Zagreb), Professor emerita of the University of Zagreb Marijana Krsnik Rasol, Ph. D., Professor Emeritus of the University of Zagreb Slobodan Barbarić, Ph. D., and Professor Višnja Besendorfer, Ph. D., (Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology of the University of Zagreb).

The honorary doctorate award ceremony began with the introductory speech of the Rector of the University of Zagreb Professor Damir Boras, Ph. D., followed by the speech of the promoter, Professor Vladimir Mrša, Ph. D. After the Rector declared Professor Emeritus Daniel Hagège an honorary doctor, Professor Hagège signed his name into the Book of Honorary Doctors. The honorary doctorate award ceremony concluded with the academic hymn Gaudeamus Igitur.

Along with vice-rectors, deans and vice-deans of the University of Zagreb, the honorary doctorate award ceremony was attended by many professors, students and other distinguished guests.

Students of the Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb participated in the musical part of the programme.

Before the ceremony, the Rector of the University of Zagreb Professor Damir Boras, Ph. D., welcomed the delegation from the University of Orleans: the President of the University of Orléans Professor Ary Bruand, Professor Anne Delouis, in charge of International Relations within Europe, and Professor Chantal Pichon, the new coordinator of joint studies in biotechonology with the University of Zagreb. From the University of Zagreb side also attended Professor Miloš Judaš, Ph.D., vice-rector for Science, Inter-Institutional Cooperation and International Relations and Professor Davor Ježek, Ph.D., vice-dean for International Relations at the School of Medicine.

The cooperation between the two universities is strong thanks to the joint studies in biotechonology, that is running for 10 years now, but other fields of cooperation were explored also. The meeting ended by signing of the renewal of the cooperation agreement between the two universities.
